PT Warriors Football is Here!

For the first time ever, Parker-Tarrant Home School Sports (PTHSS) will offer Boy's football for the coming year. We will field a 6-man High School team in the fall and hope to play approximately 10 games against other local teams. Jon Blackburn will be leading the young men and teaching them not only football skills, but character and life skills as well. The PTHSS football program will be for home-schooled young men 9th through 12th grade. (Athletes must be 13 by Sept 1, 2008.) The regular football season will begin in early August with two-a-day practices and try-outs. Games will run through early November.

First Warriors Football Camp Held!  On July 21-25 the PTHSS football team held their first annual "Warrior Camp" at Coach Blackburn's "Circle P Ranch" Pastor's Retreat in Whitt, TX. Coach Blackburn was assisted by Coaches Ashford, Williams, Weed, and Pointer. Eighteen boys attended the camp with sixteen completing the camp. Parents played a huge rule in supporting the camp with their prayers, refreshments, and presence as chaperones and spectators. Coach Blackburn's wife, Susan, together with the help of Coach Ashford's and William's wives, supported by teenage volunteers, provided all the delicious meals. The boys especially enjoyed the "grits and beans."  Morning/evening devotions were conducted by Coaches Blackburn, Ashford, and Weed, and by Pastor Gibson, and PTHSS President Corey Linscombe. Camp opened at 5:30 AM on Monday the 21st with a 4-mile run and concluded after a 10-mile "Warrior Run" with a celebration swim at Possum Kingdom Lake followed by milk shakes on Friday the 25th.  During the camp, the boys focused on fulfilling this years motto - "Warrior Camp: Where Boys Become Men," by appropriating the camp's victory verse - "Watch, stand fast in the faith, act you like men, be strong" (I Cor 16:13). Each young man grew spiritually, mentally, physically, and athletically by participating in devotions, play-book sessions, and a grueling regimen of training that included the following:
  • 66 hours of conditioning
  • 8 hours in devotion
  • 45 miles running
  • 800 yards - 100 lb bar lunges
  • 800 yards - 90 lb farmer runs
  • 600 yards - 90 lb farmer lunges
  • 100 eight-count body builders
  • 500 push-ups
  • 200 sit-ups
  • 16 "death" squares
  • 40 - 100 yard wind sprints
  • 12 - 50 yard 100 lb tire pulls
  • upper/lower body weight workouts
  • "death" crawls
  • bear crawls
  • 1 bath
  • 24 hours sleep
Susan Blackburn has put together a short slide show of the camp which will be accessible via our Photo Page very soon.  The boys are already talking about next season's Warrior Camp. For now, we rejoice in what God's grace allowed us to accomplish thus far and we prayerfully request your continued support in this year's maiden season.
